To compare the insulating ability of insulation products, we need to look at its thermal resistance or "R-value". The higher the R-value, the greater the effectiveness of the insulation.

With so many options to choose from, we've covered some of the most popular types of insulation:

  • Thermal & Acoustic Insulation

Thermal and acoustic insulation comes in the form of batts and rolls, and is the most widely available type of insulation. This insulation may be made of fibreglass, mineral fibre, polyester or natural fibres, and is used on unfinished walls, or floors and ceilings. It’s a relatively inexpensive option, and is installed between studs, joists and beams.

  • Foam board or rigid foam

Foam boards are able to reduce the amount of heat conducted through building materials such as wood and wall studs. Foam boards and rigid foam panels are more effective at reducing energy

  • Reflective insulation & Building Wraps

Reflective insulation and building wraps reduce heat gain and heat loss in a building. This enhances energy efficiency, and leads to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Reflective insulation consists of a pliable building membrane with low flammability, and is suitable for unfinished walls, ceilings and floors - especially in hot climates.
